It has been eight years since Bob Dylan released an album of new material, yet, in the throes of this uncertain time, the American singer-songwriter revealed a new song overnight that 'some of you might find interesting.'
Although this is scarcely the kind of thing we cover on Off The Ball, the release of a new Bob Dylan song almost 17-minutes in length seems worthy of a break with tradition.
"Murder Most Foul," a song that Dylan explained he and his band recorded a few years ago, this epic new release begins with the scene surrounding the assassination of US President John F Kennedy in 1963.
In certain regards, it mirrors a similar paean Dylan wrote and recorded for the memory of the assassinated John Lennon ("Roll On John") for his last album of original material, Tempest.
Nevertheless, an altogether different project in terms of scale, "Murder Most Foul" even surpasses the 1997 release, "Highlands" in regards to its length. You can listen to the new Bob Dylan song below.
It is not the first time that Bob Dylan has made reference to Kennedy in one of his songs. As early as 1962, the recently elected President of the United States was making his way into the artist's work.

Two months shy of his 79th birthday, Bob Dylan continues to relentless tour the globe with his long-time band.
Earlier this week, it was announced, however, that his planned tour of Japan would have to be cancelled as the fight against the spread of coronavirus goes on.
"We are so sorry to cancel the shows," a statement on Dylan's official website read, "but in the interest of Public Health and Safety, we are left with no alternative."
It is with this in mind that the release of this new song takes on a degree of sense. Known to be in possession of numerous alternative and new recordings of his own work that have never entered the public domain, the periodical release of Dylan's bootleg material by Bob Dylan himself has become a welcome industry for fans of the artist.
