Hamilton pays tribute to Chadwick Boseman following Belgium GP pole

Lewis Hamilton will start on pole position for Sunday's Belgian Formula One Grand Prix.

The 35-year-old finished ahead of his Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas with a new track record at Spa-Francorchamps on Saturday afternoon.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen qualified third, with Renaults Daniel Ricciardo alongside him on the second row of the grid.

World champion Hamiloton dedicated his victory to American actor Chadwick Boseman who died from cancer on Friday.

Hamilton took to Twitter to say Chadwick, who starred in Black Panther as well as Avengers films, was an inspitration and a "true superhero".

Meanwhile, Hamilton - the only black driver in Formula 1 - said at a news conference this week that he supports the boycotts by players of various sports in the USA following Jacob Blake's shooting.

He also said that similar measures in Europe wouldn't have the same impact;

“Firstly I think it's incredible what many out there in the States are doing within their sports.

So many people are standing with the players and really pushing for change.

“But that is in America and I don't know if me doing anything here will particularly help ... we're in Belgium, we're not in the United States.”

Hamilton has regularly spoken out against racism following the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis in May and has been taking a knee before races in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
