Jason Quigley on Dominic Ingle: “He wants that victory, and doesn’t want any other man getting the better of you”

Unbeaten Jason Quigley believes his relationship with trainer Dominic Ingle will be crucial for his assault on a world title.

Quigley relocated to Sheffield in order to train in the famous Ingle gym. He moved to Yorkshire after spending three and a half-years in Los Angeles. He cited being closer to home as the main reason for the move.

The Donegal native spoke with OTB’S Shane Hannon at the World Snooker Championship in Sheffield. He was at the Crucible to support his good friend John Higgins, who is competing in the final.

“For me the key part of a coach is the relationship you have with them; the trust that you have with them. And the trust you can put in with them, every time you step in the ring.”

The Irish boxer spoke about the move to Sheffield to train with Dominic Ingle. He believes trust is key to a successful relationship with a coach. He says that him and Ingle have that in abundance.

“I’ve seen that he cared, and most importantly, I’ve seen that he wants to win. And that’s exactly what you need in your corner. You need a man in there, that’s going to care for you, that’s going to look after you, and that wants that victory; doesn’t want any other man getting the better of you – that’s what I’ve see in Dominic, and it was great, and the way that we’ve gelled already, together is great. And I know everyday in the gym, that it’s even going to get better,’ said Quigley.

The 26-year-old unbeaten boxer says he isn’t far a way from a world title shot. He is coming off a decision victory over Daniel Cruz in March, after opening a year on the sidelines with a broken hand.

“World title fight will not be far away, and John Higgins place in the final is not far away, either.”
