James Gallagher on Bellator bantamweight champ: "He can keep his belt - I'm bigger"

Bellator MMA's James Gallagher says a fight against him in Dublin is a bigger fight than a title fight against bantamweight champion, Darrion Caldwell.

The SBG product spoke with the media ahead of his clash against Jeremiah Labiano at Bellator 223 in London, Jun. 22.

Strabane's Gallagher believes his name is the most lucrative in the division and a fight against him in Ireland's capital would surpass any fight the 135lbs champion could have.

"He can keep his belt - I'm bigger,' the bantamweight contender told the gathered media.

"Someone fighting me in Dublin as the main event is a bigger fight than me fighting him for the belt. So, it is - and that's a fact. I have never once seen him sell a few tickets, yet alone sell out an arena. Do you know what I mean? - I sold out a full arena.

Gallagher believes his promotional power will entice Caldwell to defend his belt on Irish turf. The confident Irishman says his stock is on the rise and thinks he's the biggest fight for the champion.

"I working my self into a position where fighting me in Dublin is the biggest fight in the whole division. I'm going to build this, and that's the way I'm going to make it. I'll make it that he needs to fight me.

John Kavanagh's fighter says his focus is on becoming the biggest and most recognised fighter the American promotion has ever produced. Gallagher say it's not about championship gold. The Tyrone man wants to solidify financial security for a time when his fighting days come to a halt.

"My eyes are on becoming the biggest superstar that Bellator has ever gotten. Climbing my way up and earning more money than the rest of them, and living a nice life, just doing what I love,' added Gallagher.

The 22-year-old says he's in no hurry to fight for Caldwell's gold but believes the promotion and champion will beg him to fight for the title when he's 25 years of age.

"When I'm 25 I'll be getting crazy money to fight for the belt; they'll be begging me to fight for the belt. That's the position I'm going to leave myself in. I don't need it now, they all want to fight me in Dublin because they have never had more eyes on them, in their life."

Gallagher faces Jermiah Labiano at Bellator 223 on JUN. 22 in London's SSE Wembley Arena.
