The newly-appointed Taoiseach Micheál Martin has revealed details of the new coalition Cabinet and Green Party Deputy Leader Catherine Martin has one hell of a workload.
After a sitting of the Dáil in Dublin's Convention Centre, the new Cabinet has been created and the Green Party's Deputy Leader Catherine Martin has been appointed as Minister for Culture, Arts, Media, Tourism and Sport.
Members of the new Government will travel to Dublin Castle to receive their seals of office from President Michael D Higgins when the Dáil adjourns around 8.30pm.
Martin was a constituency colleague of previous ministers Josepha Madigan (Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht) and Shane Ross (Transport, Tourism and Sport).
Outgoing Minister for Culture, Heritage & Gaeltacht Josepha Madigan tweeted: "It has been a privilege to serve as Minister for Culture, Heritage & the Gaeltacht. I wish my successor (Catherine Martin) the very best in her new role. Go n-éirí an bóthar leat."
Speaking about Ryan's appointment, Arts Council Chair Prof. Kevin Rafter said: "I would like to congratulate Minister Martin, and look forward to working with her as Minister for Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht. The arts sector has suffered disproportionately due to the Covid-19 crisis but I have no doubt that working together the new Minister and the Arts Council will be able to meet the challenges ahead.
"I would also like to acknowledge the huge contribution of Josepha Madigan TD in her term as Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. The recent increase in the Arts Council budget to €100m for 2020 was a notable achievement.
