Eddie Hearn reveals Daniel Kinahan negotiations with Sky Sports

Promoter Eddie Hearn claims that Daniel Kinahan has recently been involved in negotiations with Sky Sports.

The Matchroom Boxing chairman told IFL TV that Kinahan had been helping arrange fights for a number of high-profile boxers with the TV company.

Matchroom recently ended their contract with Sky Sports, and signed a five-year deal with streaming service DAZN.

Kinahan remains an advisor to several boxers, including heavyweight Tyson Fury. However, Hearn has offered a rare insight into the alleged mobster's dealings with Sky.

The Matchroom boss was asked about a trio of fighters who have recently left his stable - Hughie Fury [cousin of Tyson], Savannah Marshall and Lewis Ritson - and are continuing their careers on other platforms.

All three will fight on a BOXXER card at Newcastle's Utilita Arena on Saturday, October 16, with Marshall defending her WBO middleweight title against Lolita Muzeya.

Sky Sports will broadcast the card.

Kinahan has no criminal convictions but was named in the High Court in 2018 as a senior figure in organised crime on an international scale.

The Dubliner is currently based in Dubai, but a Garda source recently told The Star, "There is serious work under way to get charges on him.”

Despite the increasing spotlight on Kinahan in the wake of Gerry Hutch's arrest in Spain, it appears he's still heavily involved in fight negotiations.

Speaking to IFL about the main protagonists on the Newcastle card, Hearn said, "Lewis [Ritson] I think is doing one fight with BOXXER.

"Those three in particular [are] managed by MTK, and I think their advisor Daniel [Kinahan] spoke to us and Sky - and basically, this was a massive opportunity for them."

Just earlier this year, Hearn said the focus on Kinahan after the BBC Panorama documentary Boxing And The Mob was "bad news" for boxing.

"Anything that's negative, or anything that portrays a negative spin on the sport is bad news for me," Hearn said.

"It's bad news for the sport.

"Any sport - it doesn't matter if it's boxing, or if it's football or if it's tiddlywinks - anything that portrays a sport in a bad light stops the progress that you're trying to make."
