Defeat for Andy Murray at Eastbourne

Andy Murray's had his first defeat since starting his tennis comeback in doubles in the first round at Eastbourne.

The former world number one and his Brazilian partner Marcelo Melo lost 6-2 6-4 to Colombian top seeds Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal.

Murray had won the doubles with Feliciano Lopez at Queen's last week in his first tournament since hip surgery.

The three-time Slam winner says fatigue wasn't an issue and that they were simply beaten by a better team today.

"They just played a lot better than us today. They got off to a quick start and deserved to win".

Murray says he's not concerned by taking on doubles specialist players.

“I don’t care whether they take me seriously as a doubles player or not, to be honest, I’ll give them good matches, I’m sure, when I play against them.”

The 32-year-old, who had major hip surgery early this year, is set to play doubles with Pierre-Hugues Herbert at Wimbledon but he's told the BBC that he's unlikely to compete in the mixed doubles at SW19.

"I spoke to some of the doubles players the last few days about why they don't always play mixed and they just said they had some situations where the weather has not always been so good.

"And because doubles is best of five (sets), and you play with the advantage scoring, you can get backed up and end up playing four matches in two days. I just need to be certain that my body's ready for that."
