Brian O'Driscoll: "I'm impressed with Conor McGregor the athlete. I think he is a specimen"

The Off the Ball team pitched up at this year's Electric Picnic over the weekend to take part in the festivities in Stradbally.

The talk soon turned to the recent super-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. The bout looks like it will do roughly 6.5 million pay-per-views which would smash the previous record of 4.4 million - set by Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao in 2015.

Speaking to Ger Gilroy about the event , former Ireland rugby captain Brian O'Driscoll said: "I was intrigued but I just wasn't waiting up until four, half four, five, half five - and she (his daughter) woke up at six literally just as it finished. I'm not that big an MMA fan. I'm impressed with Conor McGregor the athlete.

"I think he is a specimen and obviously an incredible professional and to go and procure a fight against one of the greatest fighters of all time in sport that he has no experience in is a remarkable thing to do and making 70/80/100 million en route - good luck to him.

"From everything that goes with it, I don't know if I'd be in agreement with it but there's no doubt he's an incredible athlete," he added.

McGregor performed better than expected and won the early rounds of the bout before the more experienced American took over and eventually stopped the Dubliner in the 10th round.

The Irishman had few complaints in the post-fight press conference and talk soon turned to his return to the UFC's octagon.

It has been mooted that he will headline UFC 219 at the end of the year in Las Vegas with the likely options being the rubber match against Nate Diaz or a clash with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
