Angry Tiger roars as Rory fluffs his lines: The Open review

Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods have been enduring difficult years in relative terms; Rory is still looking for his first major since the PGA Championship in 2014, while Tiger's form and fitness have been waxing and waning for as long as most can remember.

Both, however, were in contention in the back nine on Sunday at Carnoustie, and on OTB AM, we discussed where things went right and wrong for the pair. Ger and Eoin spoke to Neil Treacy - Off The Ball's man in Angus - about Rory's putting and bottle, as well as Tiger's notable anger following Sunday.

Rory felt that he was back in it at the end following a 55-foot eagle putt on the 14th.

"I'm happy with how I played. I didn't get off to a great start, but I hung in there and I battled back. I just ran out of holes at the end!

"Even when I made birdie on 11, I knew that Tiger was leading on his own at seven (under par) at that point - I had just gotten to five."

Tiger himself was angry at his performance, given that he went into the lead at one stage during Sunday afternoon.

"I'm a little ticked off with myself, for sure. I had a chance starting that back nine to do something, and I didn't do it."

Tiger is determined to keep things in perspective though - in part, thanks to his relationship with Serena Williams.

"[The experience] was a blast. I was saying earlier that I need to try and keep it in perspective, because if you had said at the start of the year that you'd be playing in The Open Championship then I would have said that I would be very lucky to do that.

"Serena and I are good friends. I am sure she will probably call me about it, because you have got to put things in perspective. She has just had a baby and lost the Wimbledon finals.

"It's going to sting for a little bit here. But given where I was to where I'm at now. Blessed."
