Cian O'Sullivan calls time on football career citing recurring injuries

Eight-time All-Ireland winning footballer Cian O'Sullivan has called time on his football career, citing a number of injuries which have plagued his 12-year inter-county career.

The Dublin centre-back-cum-sweeper made the announcement on Twitter on Sunday, after a stellar career with the defending All-Ireland champions.

The three-time All-Star made his inter-county debut for Dublin in 2009, and won his first All-Ireland in 2011, and has been a mainstay with the Dubs ever since, on their road to the ten-in-a-row.

O'Sullivan took to Twitter to announce his retirement, stating that a number of recurring injuries have taken a toll on his body, and, at the age of 33, he is retiring from football.

"Regrettably, and despite best efforts to address a number of recurring injuries, it's time to draw a close to my footballing days," O'Sullivan said in his Twitter post.

"The competitive demands have taken their toll and while my heart would love dearly to continue, my body simply can't.

"I am honoured and privileged to have represented my club and county and to have enjoyed success beyond my wildest boyhood dreams.

"I am especially proud to have been part of such a special Dublin team that has been like a second family to me in these years. This will be a void that will be difficult to fill.

"There are too many people to thank, and I would like to thank you all personally in time."
