Michaela Walsh has given a positive update on the ankle strain that her brother Aidan suffered after his victory at the Olympics on Friday morning.
Aidan Walsh is guaranteed a medal after winning his quarter-final against Merven Clair in Tokyo, but will be hoping to better that when he goes up against Pat McCormack in the semi-final on Sunday.
However, there were some injury concerns after his bout with Clair, as he went off in a wheelchair, having rolled his ankle during his Michael Carruth-esque celebration.
Fortunately, speaking on Off The Ball’s Olympic Show on Friday, Michaela Walsh, Aidan’s sister and Team Ireland boxing teammate, said that he was fit and ready for his next fight.
“Oh, Aidan is 100 per cent,” Walsh said. “They call him the horse of the team. You always see him on the track or in training.
“He is all good, he is in good spirits and spirits are high in the team, so he is back recovering and ready to go on Sunday.
“Nothing new to Aidan, he is just obviously celebrating the win. He wants bigger and better things, so no skin off his back.”
“He just got a bit excited, but he is all good,” Walsh added. “He is ready and raring to go.”
Walsh is one of three boxers capable of bringing home gold for Team Ireland, with Kellie Harrington and Kurt Walker both looking to medal in the coming weeks.
