Van Dijk signs new long term deal at Liverpool until 2025

Dutch centre half Virgil van Dijk has committed his future to Liverpool by penning a new four-year contract with the Merseyside club.

The 30-year-old has signed on with Liverpool until 2025.

Van Dijk joined the Reds for £75 million from Southampton back in 2018 and has made 130 appearances for the club.

He has played a monumental part in the success of Jurgen Klopp's side.

Van Dijk was named PFA Players' Player of the Year in 2019 as Champions League glory was earned.

Then, in 2020, Van Dijk's performances at the back propelled Liverpool to their first League title in 30 years.

He suffered a serious knee injury against Everton last October and missed the remainder of the season, but will return for the new Premier League campaign.

Van Dijk told the Liverpool website that he feels at home at Anfield.

"Since day one when I joined the club, I felt so much appreciation from the fans and from my teammates and the staff, that I could be a very important member of this football club.

"It has been going well; unfortunately last season for me personally has been a season to forget, to learn from and take with me, but I have enjoyed my time here and will keep enjoying it in the next couple of years altogether with all of you.

"It didn't take too long to feel like that [at home], to be fair, with the help of my teammates, especially in the beginning, the staff and especially the fans, how they have welcomed me from the start.

"Where I am today, how I feel today, is [as] a very senior, important player for the team and for the club. That's just a fantastic feeling and why I definitely feel at home here."

Van Dijk joins Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Alisson, and Ireland's Caoimhin Kelleher in signing new long-term deals with Liverpool.
