Ramos v Salah rematch ruled out with Real defender missing through injury

The long-awaited renewal of hostilities between Sergio Ramos and Mo Salah will have to wait.

Ramos looks set to miss both legs of Real Madrid's Champions League quarter-final with Liverpool.

The Real captain has revealed news of a calf injury on his Instagram page.

In an injury-hit season, Ramos has only played four games for Real since the turn of the year. He'd only recovered from a torn meniscus in time for the international break.

Ramos played the first 45-minutes of last week's World Cup qualifier with Greece, and was a late substitute for Eric Garcia in Wednesday night's 3-1 win over Kosovo.

"Yesterday, after the game," wrote the 35-year old, "I was training on the pitch and I noticed a puncture in my left calf.

"Today I've had it examined, and it has been confirmed that I have a muscle injury.

"If there is something that hurts me, it is not being able to help the team in these highly demanding matches."

Real welcome Liverpool to the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano on Tuesday night, before trekking to Anfield the following week.

Tuesday's first leg will be the first time Real will have met Liverpool competitively since their 2018 UEFA Champions League final meeting in Kiev.

That night saw Ramos injure Mo Salah, taking him out of the final after just half an hour. Real went on to win the game 3-1, aided by an horrific night in the Liverpool goal for Loris Karius.
