SOCCER - PL

Republic of Ireland defender John Egan continued his hot streak in front of goal last night.

He headed Sheffield United's winner deep into injury time to secure a 1-nil win over Wolves in the Premier League at Bramall Lane.

The win keeps Egan's side in contention for a European place.

Mo Salah's 18th and 19th goals of the season helped champions Liverpool to a 3-1 win at Brighton, with Jordan Henderson scoring the other.

The Reds are still on course for a record points tally.

In last night's other games, David Silva scored one and assisted another two in Manchester City's 5-nil thrashing of Newcastle United.

West Ham remain in trouble following a 1-nil defeat at home to Burnley. Jay Rodriguez with the only goal on 38 minutes.

Manchester United can establish a six-point gap between themselves and sixth placed Wolves tonight.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are away to Aston Villa. Three points would move United within a point of the Champions League places with a win.

That game kicks off at 8.15.

Elsewhere, second from bottom Bournemouth entertain Tottenham Hotspur.

And at Goodison Park, Everton face Southampton.

Both of those matches begin at 6.

CHAMPIONSHIP

West Brom are sitting on top of the Championship table this morning.

They took another step towards automatic promotion to the Premier League with a 2-nil win over Derby. 21-year-old Dubliner Dara O’Shea scored for the Baggies.

Leeds can regain the summit with victory against Stoke this evening, with the action underway from five o’clock.

Pep Clotet has left his job as Birmingham head coach.

He was due to step down at the end of the season, but agreed to go following last night's 3-1 defeat to Swansea in the Championship.

The result means they're four points clear of the relegation zone, with as many games left to go.

GOLF - RYDER CUP

A re-arranged Irish Open could replace the postponed Ryder Cup in this year's calendar.

The biennial meeting of the US and Europe has been postponed due to COVID-19 fears.

Padraig Harrington will instead lead Europe at Whistling Straits in September of 2021.

This year's Irish Open at Mount Juliet was also postponed due to the coronavirus.

The European Tour say a variety of scheduling options are currently under consideration.

Meanwhile, Open champion Shane Lowry is among the field as golf's PGA Tour moves to Dublin in Ohio.

The Charity Open at Muirfield Village Golf Club gets underway today - it replaces the John Deere Classic, which has also been postponed to next year because of the coronavirus outbreak.

DARTS

World number one Michael van Gerwen returned to the PDC Darts Tour with a victory last night.

He won the first of five Summer Series events in Milton Keynes, beating global champion Peter Wright 8-7 in the final.

It's taking place over the next five days to mark the sport's comeback after being put on hold due to the coronavirus outbreak.
