SOCCER - EUROPA LEAGUE

Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez both scored twice last night as Inter Milan cruised through to the Europa League final.

Antonio Conte's side beat Shakhtar Donetsk 5-nil in their semi-final in Dusseldorf.

Inter will face Sevilla in Friday's final in Cologne.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Lisbon hosts the first of this week's Champions League semi-finals this evening.

Both RB Leipzig and Paris Saint Germain are hoping to reach the final of European football's premier club competition for the first time.

Kick off is at 8pm.

CELTIC 

Neil Lennon admits getting through to the Champions League group stages is a "priority" for Celtic.

The Scottish Premiership champions host Iceland's KR Reykjavik in the first qualifying round of the competition this evening.

They've not progressed to the main phase of the tournament since 2017.

Linfield face a difficult trip to Poland tonight in the Champions League first qualifying round.

The Northern Irish side are away to Polish title winners Legia Warsaw.

BARCELONA - KOEMAN

Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman is the frontrunner to be the next Barcelona manager.

The Spanish club sacked Quique Setien after their humiliating 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Koeman - a Barcelona great - is said to be the preferred choice with an announcement expected in the next few days.

DAVID SILVA

David Silva has joined Real Sociedad.

The 34-year-old was a free agent after a decade at Manchester City.

Silva had looked set to join Serie A side Lazio, but signs a two-year deal with the Basque club instead.

LEAGUE OF IRELAND

Cabinteely opened up a five point lead at the top of the SSE Airtricity First Division last night with a 3-1 win at Longford Town.

Drogheda are up to second courtesy of a 1-nil win over Galway.

And nine-man UCD beat ten-man Athlone 2-1.

Waterford go to Sligo Rovers in the Premier Division tonight.

Kick off at the Showgrounds is at 5.45.

In the First Division, Cobh Ramblers face Wexford, and Bray Wanderers entertain Shamrock Rovers Two.

Those matches begin at 7.45.

STUART PEARCE

Stuart Pearce has returned to West Ham as first-team coach.

The former full-back will work alongside Kevin Nolan and Paul Nevin, who have also signed new contracts.

Pearce had been part of manager David Moyes' staff during his first spell in charge in 2018.

GAELIC GAMES - CPA STATEMENT

The Club Players' Association have joined the GPA in backing a split season.

The GAA's Fixtures Review Committee is due to meet tomorrow.

CPA boss Micheál Briody says the current circumstances have presented the GAA with a golden opportunity to trial a clear split in the season.

There's a seven race card at Roscommon this afternoon.

The first is off at ten past 4.

LEAGUE CUP DRAW

The draw for the first round of this season's League Cup takes place this morning.

All clubs from the Championship and below will be in the hat.

Premier League sides enter the competition in round two, while those competing in European tournaments come into the cup in round three.

NFL - WASHINGTON

New Washington Football Team president Jason Wright says dropping the Redskins suffix was the right thing to do.

The 38-year-old has become the first black person to hold the role in the NFL.

Wright says it's time for the club to move forward and create a new history:

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs plan to allow fans inside Arrowhead Stadium at 22% capacity when the 2020 NFL season begins.

Supporters will be required to wear face masks and will also be separated into grouped pods inside the stadium.
