Middlesbrough boss Neil Warnock tests positive for COVID-19

Middlesbrough manager Neil Warnock has tested positive for coronavirus and is in self-isolation.

Boro say the 71-year-old is in "good spirits" and he will now spend "a period in isolation in accordance with guidelines".

Warnock watched from the stands as Boro were beaten by Barnsley in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night because he was "feeling unwell upon arrival".

A statement from the club read: "The club can confirm that our manager Neil Warnock has returned a positive test for COVID-19 and will be spending a period in isolation in accordance with guidelines.

"Neil is in good spirits and we look forward to welcoming him back after his period in isolation."

A two-week period of isolation would see Warnock miss Boro's Championship games against Bournemouth and QPR this month.

Kevin Blackwell and Ronnie Jepson will again take temporary charge.

On Saturday 1,000 fans will be allowed into the Riverside after Middlesbrough and Bournemouth was chosen as a pilot fixture to trial the return of supporters to EFL games.
