Mbappe's mother says talks are ongoing about PSG extension

The mother of Kylian Mbappe has raised hopes that the coveted forward could stay with Paris Saint-Germain.

The 22-year old is in the final year of his contract in the French capital, and could leave for nothing next summer. Furthermore, Mbappe will be allowed to start talking to other clubs in January about a potential move.

Mbappe has flip-flopped in his public utterances about his future.

He told RMC Sport in July, "I asked to leave, because from the moment I did not want to extend my contract, I wanted the club to have a transfer fee to find a quality replacement."

But in a recent interview, the World Cup-winner told L'Équipe, "I've been in football long enough now to know that yesterday's truth is not necessarily today's, nor tomorrow's.

"If I was told that Messi was going to play at PSG, I wouldn't have believed it, so you never know what's going to happen."

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez added further intrigue to the story, dropping strong hints that the young forward could be heading to the Bernabeu next summer.

"In January we will have news about Mbappe," Perez told El Debate this week, "We hope that on January 1 everything can be solved."

He later claimed his words were misinterpreted, playing up the 'respect' that exists between Real and PSG.

Mbappe's mother - Fayza Lamari - plays a vital role in his contract negotiations, along with father Wilfried Mbappe.

Speaking to Le Parisien on Wednesday, she raised the prospect of a new deal at the Parc des Princes.

"We are currently talking with PSG and things are going well," Lamari said.

"I even met with [PSG sporting director] Leonardo yesterday [Monday]. Will we come to an agreement?

"One thing is certain: he will give his all to the end to win the Champions League. The only sure thing is that we will hear about it for a long time to come."

She added, "Kylian needs to be fulfilled. If he is unhappy, he is capable of telling you  'I'm stopping my career'. And he tells us that often.

"With Kylian, everything can change from one day to the other."
