"Fists were raised and fights in the dressing room" - Mark Lawrenson on benefits of intra-team tension

Mark Lawrenson feels Liverpool have little to worry about despite going down 2-0 at Napoli.

Jurgen Klopp's side got their Champions League campaign off on a poor note in Italy on Tuesday.

But ex-Liverpool and Ireland defender Lawrenson feels they will breeze through the group along with Napoli regardless.

"They could easily have got a draw, if not a win, last night," he told Off The Ball.

"And if you look at the group, the other teams are Genk and Salzburg.

"I think Liverpool will walk through this [group] eventually - Liverpool and Napoli.

"I expect Liverpool to have at least 10, 11 or maybe even 12 points by the time they finish."

Not a big problem

Rather than any systematic failings, Lawro put the result down to individual errors.

"I don't see it being a great problem," he said.

But while he feels there is enough cover across the pitch for Liverpool, the lack of cover for left-back Andrew Robertson is a "worry".

"Choice of centre-backs and choice of full-backs apart from the left-back. That is a worry!"

He also pointed out that Liverpool lost all three away games in the Champions League group stage last season.

Meanwhile, he also feels any bit of needle or tension between players at the club is not a bad thing.

"Nothing wrong with that. I mean, if you'd seen some of the rows that we had in our time at Liverpool, fists were raised, there were fights in the dressing room... absolutely everything," he said.

"But you know what? At the end of the day, everyone kind of gets on with it, shakes hands. If you've got 20-odd people in the squad, you're not all going to get on. I think as long as everyone are pulling the same way [it's OK]."

He added that it's harder to have arguments on the pitch due to the mass media's eagle-eyed view of the modern game.
