Liverpool stage stunning comeback to reach Champions League final

Liverpool have staged one of the great second leg Champions League comebacks as they knocked Barcelona out 4-3 on aggregate.

The Reds had gone into tonight's match at Anfield, trailing 3-0 from the first. And few would have expected them to turn it around, especially without Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino.

Jurgen Klopp's side got their first of the night after just seven minutes. The Belgian, who found the net at Newcastle on Saturday, reacted first after Marc-Andre Ter Stegen parried Jordan Henderson's effort.

Barcelona struggled to get Lionel Messi into the game but managed to hang on to that deficit until half-time. And holding a 3-1 aggregate lead, they would still have been favourites to progress.

But 10 minutes after the break, Liverpool began turning the tie on its head completely.

Trent Alexander-Arnold set up Giorginio Wijnaldum to slot in the Reds' second of the night. And two minutes later, the Dutchman headed in to level the tie at 3-3.

With Barcelona rattled and Liverpool rampant, there were still 32 minutes for either side to press ahead.

And the momentum was with Liverpool. With the game in the balance, Alexander-Arnold and Origi combined to net the winner.

The full-back caught the Barcelona defence napping at a corner and passed for Origi to finish from close range.

That made it 4-0 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate as Liverpool completed a truly stunning second leg comeback.

And it was the second year in a row in which Barcelona were foiled despite holding a large first leg lead, bringing echoes of their loss at Roma last season.

But for the second season in a row, Liverpool advance to the Champions League final where they will face either Ajax or Tottenham.
