Klopp calls out the Premier League 10 against using five subs

Jurgen Klopp has voiced his frustration at the Premier League voting down the opportunity to make five substitutions per game.

The English top flight is one of the only leagues to ditch the rule for the 2020-21 season after it was widely introduced for football's resumption in the summer.

A meeting of Premier League shareholders on Thursday failed to see the proposal approved by the 14 clubs necessary to enact change.

Liverpool manager Klopp has previously called the introduction of five substitutes per game as a "necessity".

He's seen his Premier League champions ravaged by injury this term.

At Thursday's meeting, clubs did agree to extend their substitutes' benches from seven to nine, bumping matchday squads up to 20.

"It's two different decisions. I'm not sure it's a compromise," Klopp said of the change.

"I cannot do you a favour to create headlines, everyone knows what I think about it.

"You have to ask other people. There were 10 clubs who voted against it. It was not about advantages, only player welfare.

"Only them voted against it in Europe, in the world.

"There must be a reason for it. Every club wants to stay in the league, some win the league, but here's pretty much the only league, because the Championship decided differently. It's not for me to give an answer."

It would appear one of those ten clubs Klopp is curious about is situated just across Stanley Park.

Speaking ahead of their meeting with Arsenal, Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti said, "My personal opinion, three substitutions are enough to change the game.

"To have five, I don't know, I think it can change the intensity of the game.

"I understand some want to have five, but if you need to rest a player because there is a busy time, you can keep him out at the beginning of the game."
