Derrick Williams has completed his move from Blackburn Rovers to LA Galaxy.
The Galaxy pipped DC United to the signing of the Republic of Ireland defender.
Williams has already completed a period of quarantine in Los Angeles, and is free to partake in the club's pre-season training sessions.
The 28-year old was due to be out of contract in the summer, having originally joined Blackburn from Bristol City in 2016.
Williams says a chat with a Galaxy alumnus convinced him to make the move.
"I'm really excited," he told the club's website, "As soon as I heard they were interested, I wanted to make it happen.
"I know Robbie Keane, he spoke very highly of the place and I'm proud to be able to rep Ireland and hopefully I can do as well as Robbie Keane did."
Keane spent six seasons with the Galaxy, scoring 104 goals in 165 appearances. Only Landon Donovan has scored more goals for the MLS giants.
Williams is currently recovering from a calf operation, having last featured in the Championship in mid-December.
He'd already been ruled out of Ireland's opening two World Cup qualifiers with Serbia and Luxembourg.
"Derrick is an experienced defender who has played at a high level in England and internationally,” said LA Galaxy General Manager Dennis te Kloese. “
We believe Derrick will strengthen our defence and add competition to the position.
"We are excited to have Derrick join the squad and look forward to his contributions to the club."
Because of Williams' US-born father, the Galaxy are able to register him as a domestic player.
