Jose Mourinho | "It is very premature to think about the table"

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho thinks it is too early in the season to be looking at the table.

Spurs currently sit ninth on that table that the manager claims he is not looking at, having won just one of their last five Premier League encounters.

"It's very premature to think about the table," said Mourinho.

"People still have matches in hand. In our case, we played already two matches against Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City.

"So we have to fight and we have to wait until the last match to see what happens. Anything can happen.

"We can finish top four, top six or outside the top six. We have to make sure the best possible thing is going to happen."

Mourinho to 'go until the end'

Given Spurs were briefly touted as potential title contenders, Mourinho believes much can change in a very short space of time this Premier League season.

"In the same way you lose three matches and you go to a bad position, you win three matches and go to a much better position," the Portuguese added.

"So like happened last season, let's go until the end and see what the table gives us. In the end, the table always gives you what you deserve."

Spurs face fifth-place West Ham United in a London Derby at noon on Sunday.

While the side's Premier League form has been poor of late, Tottenham will arrive at The London Stadium confident after their mid-week Europa League win over Wolfsburg.

Gareth Bale was on the scoresheet on in Germany on Thursday and that could see him come into the reckoning for a start on Sunday after speculation about his future earlier in the week.

While the future of Spurs captain Harry Kane came up for regular discussion this week, with John Giles suggesting Kane should leave White Hart Lane and Mourinho.
