Jack Grealish charged by police over lockdown crash

Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has been charged with driving without due care and attention, and failing to stop at a collision.

Police were called to an incident on the morning of March 29 in the West Midlands region of England.

They were responding to reports that a Range Rover had crashed into two parked cars in the street.

Grealish must appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on August 25th.

The 24-year old started in Villa's scoreless draw with Sheffield United on Wednesday evening, the Premier League's first game back in 100 days.

His club, Aston Villa fined the former Republic of Ireland U21 midfielder for the incident, saying he "breached the government guidelines".

Grealish had been visiting a house party of a friend.

In the days after the incident, Grealish took to social media to say how "deeply embarrassed" he was by his actions.

"I obviously just got a call off a friend asking to go around to his and I stupidly agreed to do so," he told his followers.

Grealish added, "I hope everyone can accept my apology and we can move on from this and hopefully in the near future we can be out enjoying ourselves again once this has all boiled over."

Villa are yet to comment on the charge.

The Premier League strugglers' next game comes at home to local rivals Wolves on Saturday June 27.

West Midlands Police statement:

A Premier League footballer has been charged with driving without due care and attention, and failing to stop at or report a collision.

Jack Grealish is accused of the offences in Waterside, Dickens Heath, Solihull, on Sunday 29 March.

An investigation was launched after we responded to reports of a car hitting parked vehicles and the driver fleeing on foot.

The 24-year-old from Barnt Green, Worcestershire, has been postal charged to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on 25 August.
