Former United and Everton goalkeeper retires

Former Manchester United and Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard has retired from football after playing his final game for Colorado Rapids.

Howard's 102nd appearance for the Rapids ended in a 3-1 loss to LA FC.

The 40-year-old made 339 Premier League appearances, winning the FA Cup and League Cup during his three years at United.

Howard moved from United to Everton on loan in 2006 and went on to play 413 games for the Toffees in 10 seasons.

He scored a goal in the Premier League during the 2011/12 season when his wind-assisted clearance bounced over Adam Bogdan in a 2-1 win for Bolton at Goodison Park.

Howard won 121 caps for the USA and also played at the World Cup in 2010 and 2014.

He retired from international football in 2017 and announced back in January that this would be his final season at club level.
