Fans boo Spurs off and Ryan Mason talks Kane rumours after Villa loss

There was an air of farewell around Harry Kane's lap of honour after Tottenham lost their final home game of the season.

Ollie Watkins' 14th goal of the Premier League season condemned Spurs to a 2-1 defeat that leaves them on the brink of missing out on European football next term.

It was Spurs' first home game of the season with fans present, and they weren't shy about letting the players know what they made of the preceding 90 minutes, booing the them off the field.

Steven Bergwijn had given them early cause for cheer, firing them ahead in side 8-minutes. But Sergio Reguilon sliced into his own net to bring Villa level.

The Spaniard was again to blame for what proved to be the winner, cannoning an attempted clearance off Bertrand Traore. He fed Watkins who slipped the ball home from close range.

Tottenham players took in a lap of appreciation after the final whistle, which was charged by speculation linking Harry Kane with a summer move.

Interim boss Ryan Mason doesn't believe the transfer chatter was an impediment to their performance.

"If we started the game terribly and were 2-0 down after 10 minutes maybe you could say that, but we didn't," he said, "We were 1-0 up in 10 minutes and in control. So no, I don't believe that.

"We are professionals, we are paid to do a job. The players were fully focused on the match. It is really disappointing we have lost the game tonight.

"The hope and expectation was to win, we haven't done that, the players are disappointed, the fans are and I am sure those people at home are as well."

Asked if he believed Kane had made his final appearance before the home supporters, Mason said, "It's normal.

"If anyone has been at the last home game of the season while Harry Kane has played at this football club, he has been pretty consistent in going around the pitch, clapping the fans and getting a good reaction.

"Nothing has changed this season to home games in previous seasons, it's normal."
