Dundalk confirm signing of South Korean winger Han Jeongwoo

Dundalk have added to the League of Nations at Oriel Park with the signing of South Korean winger Han Jeongwoo.

The 22-year old was a free agent following his release by Korean K1 side Suwon FC. His 17-appearances helped them gain promotion from the second-tier K League 2.

Han has been capped at U19 and U22 level for his country, and also had a spell playing in Kazakhstan for Kairat Almaty.

He joins a squad that now contains players from Albania, the Faroe Islands, Norway, Latvia, Scotland and the United States.

"I am very excited to be in Ireland for the first time in my life,” Han told DundalkFC.com, “I hope I can do really well with my teammates and I’m looking forward to training and playing with them.

“All players dream of playing in Europe,” he added, “And when they see this news, Korean fans will be very surprised.

"I was in Kazakhstan before and now I’m in Ireland and I believe I have to prove myself here. I’ll show people I have the ability to survive in this league and to play in Europe.”

Han trained with his new Dundalk teammates on Thursday and is available for Friday night's visit of Finn Harps to Oriel Park, but conceded he is not yet 100 per cent fit.

Dundalk sporting director Jim Magilton said, "His signing opens up a whole new avenue for the club to showcase and enhance our brand - as well as the League of Ireland's - in Asia which is something we are all very excited by at Oriel Park."

Team manager Shane Keegan added, "Han is an attacking player of real quality.

"He has great energy, he has pace from a starting position, he likes a trick and he gives us something a little bit different.

“He’s left-footed and that opens up other tactical ideas that we’ll be able to implement. His fitness levels and work rate have blown everybody out of the water and he’s someone that we’re really looking forward to working with."
