De Bruyne says clubs would have to "pay up" to get Sané

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has said if a club wants to buy German winger Leroy Sané "you're going to have to pay up".

The 23-year-old Sané was taken off injured in Manchester City's Community Shield win over Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday. Pep Guardiola was forced to make a change in the early stages of the game when Sané went down holding his right knee.

The winger who joined Manchester City for around €40 million (£37 million) in 2016 from Schalke 04 has been linked with a move back to German football. It is believed that Bayern Munich are interested in buying the player, in a deal which may be worth up to €157 million (£145 million).

Sane has not always enjoyed the best of relationships with City boss Pep Guardiola, who has questioned the player's attitude. Sane sees he's future in the number ten position, but Guardiola believes that he's currently more effective in wide areas.

Speaking after the penalty win at Wembley, Kevin De Bruyne said, "I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but obviously Leroy is unbelievable. If he goes, it would be bad for us because he is one of the best young players in the world.

"But, if he wants to go it is his ambition. I cannot talk about this because I really have no clue, but if you want to buy him you're going to have to pay up, I guess."

The Belgian star who has won two Premier League titles with the Citizens, as well as an FA Cup and three League Cups, said he loves winning domestic trophies.

"If people give me what I had last year, I sign now - and say sorry Champions League," said De Bruyne. "We are here, we work every day to be as far as possible in every competition. Last year we went out against Tottenham, but the way we went out is really good."
