Coutinho, Werner and Rangnick all on Newcastle radar

Newcastle United are believed to be interested in bringing Philippe Coutinho and Timo Werner to the club.

The Tyneside club have cash burning a hole in their pocket following their £305million (€360m) takeover by a Saudi Arabia-led consortium.

They've been linked with a plethora of players since that deal was done to oust Mike Ashley as owner.

However, the new owners are short of footballing expertise and have been linked with the man who turned both Lille and Monaco into Ligue 1 winners - Luis Campos.

The 57-year old took over as sporting director in Monaco in 2013, and helped build a team that won their first league title in seventeen years.

In 2017 Campos pitched up at Lille, and was a central figure of the set-up that helped depose Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 last season. He left the sporting director role there in December of 2020 after the club changed hands.

Campos is still out of work, and could be the man tasked with rebuilding Newcastle.

SportBild journalist Christian Falk has reported that former Hoffenheim, Schalke and RB Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick is interested in the manager's job at St. James's Park.

Steve Bruce remains in charge - and will be in the dugout for Sunday's meeting with Tottenham - but his days at Newcastle appear to be numbered, and he's likely to received a hefty payoff for his troubles.

Rangnick - despite his interest in the Magpies job - is barely six-months into a three-year deal as Manager of Sports and Development at Lokomotiv Moscow.

Falk also claimed there have been "serious discussions" about a Newcastle bid for Philippe Countinho.

Now 29, the Brazilian's stock has plummeted since his €135million move from Liverpool in 2018. With Barça's playing stocks being vastly different to three years ago, Coutinho has worked his way back into Ronald Koeman's plans this season at the Camp Nou.

However, the prospect of cashing in on the midfielder - given Barcelona's financial dire straits - could prove appealing to Joan Laporta and co in January.

Also linked with a Newcastle move is Bayern Munich defender, Niklas Süle. The 26-year old is out of contract next summer, and has also attracted the interest of Chelsea.

Meanwhile, a current Chelsea player could also work their way to the North-East of England.

The Magpies are said to be interested in a move for Timo Werner. The Germany striker has flitted in and out of Thomas Tuchel's starting XI this season, with the sense that the 25-year old is still to truly find his feet at Stamford Bridge following his €58million move from RB Leipzig.

Werner previously flourished under Rangnick at Leipzig during their time together at the Bundesliga club.
