"No question of rushing the return to sport" - Shane Ross

Minister for Sport Shane Ross insists that "there's no question of rushing the return to sport".

He chaired a meeting of the Return to Sport Expert Group this week and Ross says their main task is examining the "consistency of protocols" presented by governing bodies.

Non competitive golf returned across the country this week as part of the first phase of the relaxation of restriction by the government.

SSE Airtricity League clubs Dundalk, Shamrock Rovers, Derry City and Bohemians will begin testing and training from next week while Leinster, Connacht, Munster and Ulster will take part in an inter-pro rugby series at the Aviva on August 22nd and 23rd.

Minister Ross added that "a cautious approach is essential" and that they'll be guided by public health advice:

"The Government's Roadmap for Reopening Society and Business provides an important pathway for the gradual and safe return of sport in Ireland.

"The first meeting of the Expert Group represented a really good start in its work programme and this will intensify in the coming weeks. There is, however, no question of rushing the return to sport. A cautious approach is essential and all aspects of the public health advice must continue to be respected."
