No decision on Premier League pay cuts following talks

No decision has been made yet on collective wage deferrals or pay cuts by players and managers in England.

A meeting of Premier League, English Football League, Professional Footballers' Association and League Manager Association officials ended without firm resolution.

All parties say the meeting was "constructive", with agreement only on that football should only return when it is safe to do so.

The game in England is suspended until April 30 at the earliest.

No Premier League club to date has imposed wage cuts or wage deferrals on their players.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe became the first manager to voluntarily take a pay-cut during the COVID-19 shut down.

While Bournemouth, Norwich City, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have all furloughed staff as a result of the pandemic's impact on their club revenues.

Talks will continue inside the next 48-hours.

A joint statement reads:

Senior representatives from the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA), the Premier League, the EFL and the League Managers Association (LMA) met today and shared a constructive meeting regarding the challenges facing the game as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting reiterated that the overriding priority is the health and well-being of the nation - including that of players, coaches, managers, club staff and supporters – and everyone agreed football must only return when it is safe and appropriate to do so.

No decisions were taken today, with discussions set to continue in the next 48 hours with a focus on several high-profile matters, including player wages and the resumption of the 2019/20 season.
