Nigel Pearson sacked by Watford with two matches left - reports

Widespread reports are circulating that Nigel Pearson has been sacked as Watford manager, with just two Premier League games remaining.

The Hornets are currently three points off relegation, with games at home to Manchester City and away to Arsenal remaining.

The club have yet to release a statement, but it appears that the decision to end Pearson's reign came after the loss against West Ham United on Friday.

Nigel Pearson

Nigel Pearson replaced Quique Sanchez Flores as manager in December last year, and Watford are looking at appointing their fourth manager of the season.

Pearson's appointment caused a significant upturn in form from Watford, who were rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.

He presided over Liverpool's first loss of the season, with a 3-0 beating at Vicarage Road meaning they could not go the season unbeaten.

The former Leicester City manager has form for keeping clubs clear of the drop, having rescued the Foxes in the 2014-15 season, the year before they went on to win the Premier League.

Dismissals

The Pearson news is the second managerial casualty of the weekend, as Huddersfield Town's Danny Cowley left the West Yorkshire club.

Cowley presided over a 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion on Friday, which confirmed Leeds United's promotion to the Premier League.

The Terriers just saved themselves from relegation to League One, following their Premier League relegation last season.
