Former Chelsea midfielder Pat Nevin said he couldn't understand why this Premier League win for Liverpool was the most celebrated.
Speaking on Off The Ball, the former Scotland player said that Liverpool will win all the awards this season because of the current aura surrounding the Merseyside club.
This comment followed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp being named Manager of the Year by the League Managers Association. While Nevin agreed with the decision he said that part of his thinking was simply because the Merseyside club won the league.
“If the award was giving to Chris Wilder, I would say ‘fine’. He did an amazing job," says Nevin. "If I was voting I would give it to Klopp, purely because Liverpool won the league. I don’t know why that’s the case!”
The BBC Pundit questioned why Liverpool’s league win this season was so dramatized by fans and the media.
“Why is this championship being celebrated more than any other championship in history with the possible exception of Leicester City?" Asked Nevin.
"United have won it, Chelsea have won it, Arsenal have won it. I’ve never seen anything like this. I know it’s the media and the fans and the length of time in winning it. I just think it’s so extraordinary. I’ve really never seen anything like it.
"Is it such a big celebration just because it’s been 30 years? I don ‘t know if anyone has an idea or if people agree with that. I’d like the answer.
“I’m so intrigued by it because I’ve watched teams win the Premier League and they celebrate and it’s in the news but then you move on. But here it’s been going for months.”
Nevin however praised Klopp’s team for the excitement and quality of play that his team brought to the Premier League this season.
“They are an absolute joy to watch. Parts in that 5-3 win over Chelsea, they were so brilliant. It was the best of English football I’ve seen in a long time. Just the madness of it.
“The teams at the top are brilliant attack-minded teams. All of them. It’s great that that’s what’s winning football now."
