Former Dundalk FC defender Sonni Nattestad has seen his contract with Norwegian club FK Jerv cancelled mere hours after the announcement of the two year deal.
Nattestad previously played in the Norwegian top flight with Molde under former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He made 14 appearances for Dundalk last season.
The Lilywhites signed the defender, who has also previously played in Denmark, from Faroese side B36 at the start of last season.
Jerv announced on Sunday they had signed Faroe Islands international after his deal with Dundalk ended late last year.
"The first signing of the year can finally be announced," the Jerv statement read. "There is only one medical check left before everything is ready."
"Sonni is a very solid stopper. Not only is he a good dueling player, but good in terms of play and an experienced International player," Jerv manager Arne Sandstø said in the original announcement of the signing.

However, mere hours after the initial announcement of the signing on Sunday, Jerv released a statement announcing that the contract had been cancelled.
"FK Jerv and Sonni Nattestad have today decided to cancel the announced contract," The statement read. "The background is an issue the player has been involved in, and which we should have been aware of.
"The case Nattestad was involved in is not something we as a club can vouch for or be associated with. FK Jerv would like to apologize to everyone involved that we did not do a good enough job prior to the signing."
Jerv were promoted to Norway’s top flight, the Eliteserien, for the first time in its 73-year history at the end of last season.
