Fabrice Muamba details messages to Christian Eriksen after Dane's collapse

Fabrice Muamba has detailed the messages of support he sent to Christian Eriksen after the Danish playmaker collapsed from cardiac arrest.

The former Bolton midfielder suffered the same condition while playing for Wanderers against Tottenham in the FA Cup in 2012.

Speaking to TalkSport, Muamba spoke about sending messages to Eriksen.

“I’ve sent him a message last week, I’ve not heard anything back, but we need to give him space.

“I’m sure when he’s ready to get in touch, I would be glad to be able to speak to him about anything he wants to speak about.

“I believe he’s been told he will have an ICD (implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) put in him, which is good news.

“If anything good comes out of the tournament, it’s that Christian Eriksen is well and sound. That’s the best news to come out of Euro 2020.”

Muamba praised the medical staff and the officials during the match between Denmark and Finland in Copenhagen on 12 June.

“I was watching it and couldn’t believe it,” he added. “When people tell you ‘you’ve have an accident’ you don’t see the effect it has.

“Also there was nobody around him. There’s so much emotions going on at the time and I was watching the guy and thinking ‘this can’t happen again’.

“The medical staff, referee and everyone else was absolutely fantastic on the day. To resuscitate him, to be able to use a defib and get Christian from the pitch to the ambulance in a very good condition, they deserve a lot of credit.”
