Jose Mourinho gives mournful interview as Spurs embarrass selves

Jose Mourinho did one of his trademark long-winded interviews after an embarrassing defeat, after Tottenham's 3-0 capitulation at Dinamo Zagreb.

The result leaves Spurs' season looking increasingly bereft of hope, particularly after defeat in last Sunday's North London derby.

Mourinho gave his thoughts to BT Sport following the result.

Jose Mourinho

Mourinho praised Dinamo for 'leaving everything on the pitch' after recovering from a 2-0 deficit to progress.

"On the other hand, my team - and I repeat, my team, I am there - that didn't look like they were playing an important match. If, for anyone of them it is not an important match, for me it is. For the respect that I have for my own career and my job - every match is an important match for me.

"To say that I feel sad is not enough, what I feel goes much further than sadness. I just left the Dinamo dressing room where I went to praise the guys. I feel sorry that one team that is not my team won the game based on attitude, based on compromise. I feel more than sad, and that's it.

"Football is not just about players that feel they have more quality than others. The basics of football goes beyond that, the attitude - they beat us on that.

"It happened because I believe that the players only realised that the game was at risk when they scored the second goal and went to extra time."

Winners

Mourinho did not want to speculate on those in the squad that he considers 'winners'.

"I don't think you can expect me in front of cameras to go as deep as [naming who is a winner and not in the Spurs squad.]

"I'm disappointed in the difference in attitudes between one team and another -  and I repeat, so I don't want any doubts, MY team - I feel sorry that my team that didn't bring the basics of football and the basics of life. It is to respect our jobs and give everything."

Apology

Mourinho shared feelings of regret that his team has fallen short.

"On behalf of my team, in spite that maybe some of them don't share my feelings and my emotions, I can only apologise to the Tottenham supporters. I hope that the players feel the same way I feel.

"In the Europa League, it is not the first time - in Antwerp I had the feeling of not the same dimension because it was the group phase. Today is live or die and in this moment, we die.

"Until the last day of the season, we have to try and do our best."
