Monaghan suspend Seamus McEnaney after Covid training breach

Monaghan have suspended senior football manager Seamus McEnaney, after confirming a breach of Covid-19 guidelines.

It was reported this morning that the GAA were investigating footage of the senior squad collectively training during March, which was in breach of both government and GAA regulations.

This afternoon, the Monaghan county board admitted to "a breach of the Covid-19 regulations and guidelines", and suspended McEnaney for three months with immediate effect.

"Monaghan GAA acknowledge that following an investigation this morning, there was a breach of the Covid-19 regulations and guidelines.

"Resulting from an internal investigation, our senior team manager, Seamus McEnaney, has admitted that this was a serious error of judgement and apologies unreservedly for the indiscretion.  The County Management Committee have suspended the Monaghan GAA Senior Football manager, Seamus McEnaney for 12 weeks with immediate effect and will fully cooperate and comply with any Croke Park investigation," their statement concludes.

News of the breach came this morning, after Justice Minister Helen McEntee forwarded video and photographic footage of an alleged county training session last month.

The 12-week suspension given to McEnaney is the same punishment Dublin handed down to manager Dessie Farrell, after some members of his side were pictured training at the Innisfails GAA Club in north Dublin last week.

The GAA are yet to impose a sanction on Dublin, as they continue with their investigation.

Croke Park officials are expected to shed some light on the training breaches when they reveal the revised fixtures schedule for the intercounty season later this afternoon.
