Former Tyrone intercounty GAA player and current Antrim football manager Enda McGinley joined Wednesday's Off The Ball to discuss the GAA schedule proposals.
Enda McGinley won three All-Irelands with Tyrone.
He's been in the GAA at different levels in different roles for more than 20 years. You can safely assume McGinley has some connections in the GAA.
"I'm hearing a fairly decent split between those that have votes and those that don't have votes," McGinley said.
McGinley explains that while there is widespread support for Proposal B, it's still uncertain. Those with votes aren't sold on Proposal B the way those without are. McGinley himself believes Proposal B is the right choice, although it's not perfect.
But McGinley doesn't believe his opinion holds much weight with voters compared to others. Ulster GAA provincial secretary and CEO Brian McAvoy came out strongly against Proposal B and McGinley believes voters will take more heed of his words.
There have been plenty of voices coming out in recent weeks, but one group has remained silent.
"The other group that has held their cards amazingly close to their chest are the leaders in all of this: The GAA hierarchy. I would be a wee bit worried about all of the momentum for B...I think overall there is a major momentum behind B in terms of people who are talking about it but the people who aren't talking about it are the people with the votes.
"We don't really know."
McGinley compared this divide to Brexit, suggesting that there is a lot going on within the GAA that needs to be resolved. And he's calling on the biggest names involved to make statements so informed decisions can be made.
"The main parties here are saying nothing and it leaves those people on the ground trying to make up their own mind. Or sort of ignoring it and just trying to get on with football, whatever will be will be. I think there are a few games at foot here in the background.
"The fact they're not coming out saying anything, giving additional information...bottom line, the option here is between option B and the status quo."
"There's just zero information coming out."
It's not just the public. McGinley knows that some delegates still don't understand the nuances of each proposal. And if they don't know when they vote, then they're more likely to seek the comfort of the status quo.
It also doesn't help that this vote comes at a busy time of the year for GAA delegates.
"It is a very busy time of year for those people. They can feel quite far removed in some ways. The people that are most directly affected are the likes of the players and the managers.
"Any county player you want to be competitive. You want to have real competition. So if they're pushing for B, that's what they see...so if we're genuine about helping the so-called lower teams, why would we not take this leap of faith?"
GPA tells county boards that Proposal B will bring financial relief.
