Mohamed Salah 'gently ribbed' by teammates after agent's tweet

Mohamed Salah was subjected to some 'gentle ribbing' by his Liverpool teammates after the player's agent posted a cryptic tweet during a recent defeat to Chelsea.

With Liverpool trailing Thomas Tuchel's team 1-0 earlier this month, Jurgen Klopp made the surprising call to remove Salah from the field as his side chased a goal.

Liverpool's top goal-scorer who 'hates being substituted' according to a report by The Athletic, Klopp's decision prompted the Egyptian's agent to post an unusual tweet mid-way.

Comprised of a solitary full-stop, the action of agent Ramy Abbas added another layer of doubt to the happiness of his client on Merseyside.

In a lengthy dissection of where Liverpool's season has gone wrong in light of their successes throughout recent seasons, the report detailed that Salah's teammates did make light of his agent's actions.

However, the report also outlined a sincere tension between both the player and the club. Furthermore, it claimed that the relationship between Salah and Sadio Mane was 'imperfect.'

Before the agent's tweet, Salah's future at Liverpool had appeared somewhat uncertain when he gave an uncharacteristic interview to the Spanish newspaper AS back in November.

Therein, the Egyptian described both Barcelona and Real Madrid as "top clubs", before conceding that his future "is in Liverpool's hands."

It is reported that Mohamed Salah was also unhappy when Klopp opted to hand Trent Alexander-Arnold the captain's armband in a Champions League tie against Midtjylland earlier this season.

Although it remains uncertain whether Liverpool can salvage a place in next year's Champions League, it is understood that any perceived surliness off the field has not impact Salah's work-rate on it.

The club's top goal-scorer again this season, it is revealed that he continues to set standards in his day-to-day behaviour.

"Mo’s work insulates him from any fallout," a training ground insider told The Athletic. "He is the darling of the sport science department and has barely missed a training session.

"He is popular, warm, funny and more self-deprecating than he can appear."
