Meath, Clare and Tipperary add their backing to Proposal B

Meath GAA have given their backing to Proposal B at this weekend's Special Congress.

The 21-time Leinster champions have thrown their weight behind the league-as-championship format.

The Royal County have joined a growing list of county boards showing their hands before Saturday's vote at Croke Park.

Tipperary, Kildare and Clare are among the others to openly declare their delegates' intention to vote for Proposal B.

In a press release on Wednesday night, Meath said, "We believe that supporting this proposal is in the best interest of the members of Meath GAA and the wider GAA community."

On Tuesday evening Tipperary revealed that clubs in the county have instructed their five delegates to vote for Proposal B.

Louth will vote in favour of the league format too, in opposition to the wishes of the county's senior football manager Mickey Harte. The former Tyrone boss would prefer the status quo be retained, but the Wee County's players have won the day.

Clare chairman Jack Chaplin said they too will be behind Proposal B.

The Kildare county board also threw their shoulder in behind Proposal B following a meeting on Tuesday night where Glenn Ryan was also ratified as their new senior football manager.

The GAA are likely to hint at their intentions on Wednesday.

They've called a press briefing for lunchtime at Croke Park where President Larry McCarthy and Director General Tom Ryan will address the media.

McCarthy's immediate predecessor has already let his preference be known.

John Horan is an advocate for Proposal B on a trial basis from 2023. The Dublin official first convened the Fixtures Review Taskforce which formulated both options.

Meanwhile, Kerry's four Special Congress delegates will wait to hear all sides of the argument on Saturday before deciding which side of the fence they'll land.

There is strong opposition to the league proposal from Ulster, with Derry manager Rory Gallagher joining the chorus of those looking to retain the status quo.
