McDowell three off the lead at Corales Puntacana

Graeme McDowell is in the hunt for a first win in just over a year ahead of tonight's final round at the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship.

The Northern Irishman is three shots off the lead at seven-under-par after posting a two-under third round of 70 on Saturday night.

The lead is jointly held by Joel Dahman and Rafael Campos on ten-under.

McDowell, who won the Saudi International last year, is a former champion of the event in the Dominican Republic.

He was a one-shot winner in 2019 with a four-round total of 18-under-par.

His third-round featured four birdies and two bogies, leaving him in a tie for seventh ahead of Sunday's decisive final day.

The event, held opposite the WGC Matchplay, has attracted some big names.

Former Masters champions Danny Willett is just one shot adrift at nine-under, while Belgium's Thomas Pieters is a shot further back.

Elsewhere, Victor Perez is the sole European interest ahead of the semi-finals of the WGC Matchplay Championship.

He takes on Billy Horschel in the last four, with Matt Kuchar and Scottie Scheffler squaring off on the other side of the draw.

Perex scored an impressive 4&3 win over Sergio Garcia in the quarter-finals.

Tommy Fleetwood exited at the hands of Horschel on the 19th, while John Rahm failed to get past Scheffler.

There's significant Irish interest on the LPGA Tour, where Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow will hope for a positive finish to the Kia Classic.

They are both on level par - 12 shots off leader Inbee Park.

In a tie for 37th, Meadow suffered a damaging double-bogey on the 18th hole in her third round of 73.

Maguire, meanwhile, had a more productive Saturday with a two-under 70.

The event, taking place in Carlsbad, California at Aviara Golf Club, carries a total prize fund of $1.8million.
