Mauricio Pochettino confirmed as new PSG manager

Mauricio Pochettino has taken charge of PSG after the former Spurs manager was spotted at the Parisian club's training ground on Saturday morning.

Heavily rumoured to be the favourite to replace Thomas Tuchel after the German manager departed the club earlier this week, Pochettino was spotted in the vicinity of PSG's Camp des Loges on Saturday.

Amid reports that official news of the Argentine's appointment was imminent, it has now been confirmed that Pochettino will take on his first role since departing Tottenham Hotspur in late 2019.

After three years in charge of Espanyol in La Liga, Mauricio Pochettino left Spain for England in 2013 where he took charge of Southampton in the Premier League.

Something of a surprise appointment at the time, the former Argentine international spent only 16 months with the Saints before moving on to Tottenham Hotspur.

During a five-year stint with the North London club, Pochettino lead Spurs to four successive top-four finishes in the Premier League, bringing the club all the way to the Champions League final in 2019.

In his absence from management, Pochettino has been regularly touted as a potential candidate for all manner of high-profile European club jobs.

Much like Pochettino himself at Spurs, he will be replacing a manager in Thomas Tuchel who so very nearly delivered Champions League success only a matter of months ago.

Defeated in the final by Germany's Bayern Munich, the Qatari owned club have made no qualms about their determination to succeed at the top table of European football.

Although Tuchel came closest to making that a reality bringing PSG all the way to their first Champions League final, Mauricio Pochettino will undoubtedly be aware that unless he goes one step further his time in Paris will likely be viewed as a failure.
