Matt Doherty believes he is 'turning the corner' at Tottenham

Matt Doherty believes that his Tottenham Hotspur career is turning around after a difficult start.

The Dubliner has struggled to adapt to life in north London after his move from Wolves last summer, but an assist in their win against Crystal Palace is a step in the right direction.

“I’m starting to turn the corner, I think," told the Tottenham matchday programme.

"I am starting to feel good again, to see things a lot quicker and pictures on the pitch a lot clearer. I feel like lately I have started to go around that bend, the form is kind of improving and - when that happens - things start to come off for you and that obviously builds your confidence.”

Doherty reflected on his positional shifts, moving from being a wing-back with Wolves to a traditional right-back with Tottenham.

“Obviously, it’s not the same. When you play at wing-back, you don’t have to defend as much.

"You don’t get exposed in defensive situations as much as when playing as a full-back, so it is definitely different, but it is not something that is totally alien to me."

Doherty was singing from the traditional Mourinho hymn-sheet in addressing his 'errors' so far this campaign.

“I usually pride myself on being a consistent player and not making the errors that I have made this season.

I just have to put even more focus and concentration in for 90 minutes and try to be mistake-free, while also expressing myself in the offensive parts of the field.”

Ireland fans will be hoping for that upturn in form to continue into Ireland's World Cup 2022 qualification group.

Carlo Ancelotti last night spoke about the injury status of Seamus Coleman, which he believes to be a 'little problem' sustained after the win in the Merseyside derby at Anfield last month.
