"I worry about Manchester United" - Mark Lawrenson on "scattergun" summer

Mark Lawrenson has expressed concern about Manchester United's hopes this season after a "scattergun" summer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have sold Romelu Lukaku, while signing Harry Maguire for £80 million as well as Aaron Wan-Bissaka and winger Daniel James earlier in the window.

Ander Herrera was also one of the other departures during the summer. But with Lukaku gone, the onus will be heavy on Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to provide the goals.

Thus far in their careers, they've shown promise but not the goal-scoring consistency.

Ex-Liverpool and Ireland defender Lawrenson highlighted that as an issue on our Deadline Day special.

"I worry about Manchester United, I really seriously do," he said.

"What on earth are they going to do?"

"Because the longer Ed Woodward's in charge of the transfer policy, it just seems like a scattergun approach.

"What if Rashford falls over in the first couple of weeks of the season? What on earth are they going to do?

"And what's the Pogba story? What's he going to do? Is he going to turn up and play or is he going to sulk?

"So it's just a really strange one and the two of the lads that they've signed are only young. Wan-Bissaka, the right-back from Palace, did extremely well but it's his second season and we don't know what that will be.

"The boy James from Swansea looked a decent player. But I don't think he's going to be regularly in the team. They look better defensively and it looks like Lindelof will play alongside Maguire.

"But elsewhere when you look at the side, what are they going to do with Sanchez? Will Martial play one week and then not play for another three weeks? They haven't answered a lot of their problems, for me."
