Manchester City return to winning ways with easy victory over Burnley

Gabriel Jesus scored twice on Tuesday night as Manchester City got back to winning ways in the Premier League with a comfortable 4-1 victory at Burnley.

City had won only once in their previous five games in all competitions and went into the tie 11 points behind leaders Liverpool.

A goal either side of half-time from Jesus showed the Brazilian means business when it comes to replacing Sergio Aguero as he recovers from injury.

"Sergio is a legend of football. I have to score when I play because Sergio scores every time," Jesus said after the game.

City also scored via midfielder Rodri, who played arguably his best game since arriving at the back to back champions in the summer.

Then Pep Guardiola's side made it 4-0 with Riyad Mahrez finding the back of the net for the champions.

The Republic of Ireland's Robbie Brady came off the bench late on and blasted in an 89th-minute consolation for the Clarets, his first Premier League goal in more than two years, but it was too little, far too late.

City go back to second with the three points, ahead of Leicester City on goal difference, at least until they play Watford on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, Jeffrey Schlupp scored in the second-half at Selhurst Park as 10-man Crystal Palace beat Bournemouth 1-0 to move up to fifth in the table.

After a run of five games without victory, Palace have now won their last two having also beaten Burnley 2-0 at the weekend.

The defeat for Bournemouth was their fourth in a row and leaves them in 12th.
