Liverpool kicked off their Premier League season in style as they thrashed Norwich City 4-1 at Anfield.
The Reds go into this season as favourites in the eyes of some - including our own John Giles who's tipped them - to push champions Manchester City all the way across the course of the campaign.
And they will have tougher assignments than the one mustered by their newly promoted opponents this Friday night. But Jurgen Klopp's side showed no sign of tension or nerves as they brushed the Canaries aside.
An early own goal was very helpful to Liverpool's cause. It came after just seven minutes of play when last season's cult hero from the Champions League run, Divock Origi, got down the left wing.
His cross skewed into the net via Grant Hanley's clumsy attempt to clear.
On 19 minutes, Liverpool had gone further ahead through Mo Salah. The Egyptian forward found space in the box and beat Tim Krul, slotting into the far corner.
Rampant
It got worse for the visitors before the clock had even struck the half-hour mark.
A corner was swung in with Virgil van Dijk meeting it with a commanding header to make it 3-0.
The home side were rampant. But they would suffer a setback towards the end of the second half as Alisson was forced off with injury.
That meant summer signing and ex-West Ham goalkeeper Adrian would make his Liverpool debut.
They went further ahead before half-time as Origi headed in from close range.
But that was their last goal of the game and rather it was Norwich who found a second half consolation.
Their Championship top scorer from last season, Teemu Pukki, notched his first of the campaign on 64 minutes.
Overall though it was a strong opening performance from Liverpool to set down their first marker.
