Liverpool dominate Leicester City to go 13 points clear at the top

Liverpool saw off Leicester in dominant fashion with a 4-0 win to go 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, with a game in hand.

The Reds were far too good for their opponents and never looked in danger of losing the top-of-the-table clash.

The league leaders started the game at a frenetic pace with Trent-Arnold Alexander forcing an early save out of Kasper Schmeichel within the first minute of play.

Liverpool had another early chance less than a minute later when Sadio Mane got on the end of a cross from Mo Salah but was unable to direct the ball towards goal.

Leicester did grow into the game after a poor start but were unable to really trouble Jurgen Klopp’s die in the opening exchanges.

The Merseysiders were the ones to break the deadlock, with Roberto Firmino heading home for the game’s opening goal after a lovely cross from Alexander-Arnold.

The home crowd lost a bit of their lustre following the goal and the newly-crowned Club World Champions stayed in control for the remainder of the half.

The visitors picked up where they had left off in the second half, controlling possession and territory with relative ease.

The Foxes were barely able to get out of their own half and as the game approached the hour mark the home side looked bereft of ideas.

The home side did improve as the game entered the final 30 minutes but didn't really look like scoring as Liverpool soaked up any pressure that did come their way.

The European champions resumed control and soon found a second goal after Çağlar Söyüncü was deemed to have handled the ball in the box, conceding a penalty.

James Milner, who had just come on, scored from the spot with his first kick of the game.

It wasn't long before the visitors found a third goal, with Roberto Firmino putting the ball in the top-right corner of the Leicester goal from close range.

The table-toppers were absolutely rampant and the game was put beyond doubt when Arnold-Alexander blasted the ball into the bottom left-hand corner for a well-deserved goal.

With the game decided, Liverpool took their foot off the pedal and held on to the four-goal lead, leaving them in complete control of the Premier League.
