The Ladies Gaelic Football Association has said that the date of the All Ireland semi-final between Cork and Galway was moved to this Sunday, December 6th, as the original date, November 28th, clashed with Cork's All Ireland Camogie semi-final.
Cork ladies manager Ephie Fitzgerald told the Irish Examiner that the decision to stage this Sunday's semi final against Galway at Parnell Park in Dublin was 'ludicrous' and 'pathetic'.
Fitzgerald has said that the players 'aren't getting the respect they deserve' with the match being held between Munster and Connacht counties in the capital.
Fitzgerald added: “Would this happen in the men's game? Not in a million years.
"It wouldn't be allowed happen that an All-Ireland semi-final couldn't be organised properly and that six days before the game, in the middle of a pandemic, we’d be told we have to go to Dublin where the Covid numbers have been highest, number one, number two, the amount of travel involved, and number three, the amount of interaction that is going to take place over that 36 hours, or whatever it is going to be, amongst the group of 40-odd people."
Sunday's All Ireland men's semi final involving Tipperary and Mayo at Croke Park is between Munster and Connacht counties.
The LGFA have stated that the game was fixed on October 23rd for Semple Stadium on November 28th. In order to cater for a number of Cork dual players, they decided to move the match to this Sunday.
The LGFA sounded out the LIT Gaelic Grounds as a potential venue, but it's unavailable, as it will now be used by the Limerick senior hurlers for training ahead of the All Ireland final.
Dublin will await the winners of the Cork v Galway game at Croke Park on Sunday December 20th.
