Jesse Marsch's system confused everyone at Leeds

Jesse Marsch's tactics confused everyone at Leeds, leading to the inconsistent performances.

British journalist Adam Pope joined The Football Show to discuss Leeds United and Jesse Marsch.

Leeds United need a new manager.

Jesse Marsch replaced Marcelo Bielsa around this time last year. Bielsa was beloved by fans and his departure was not celebrated by the wider fanbase. Leeds will argue that the change worked because they avoided relegation and finished above Burnley.

But Marsch stabilizing the team last year didn't prove to be indicative of future success. His often cheesy character and the club's questionable transfer strategy since he took over made him an easy target.

The final straw snapped last week against Nottingham Forest.

Forest beat Leeds 1-0 at home, moving up to 13th while Leeds dropped near the relegation zone. Leeds have 18 points from 20 games, the same number as Everton and just two more than Southampton who are bottom of the league.

So what was the downfall of the US manager? The BBC's Adam Pope explains:

"It depends which games you've seen, obviously," Pope began.

"They've had a few crazy games. Beating Chelsea of course. Playing well against Arsenal and losing of course, they were very unlucky. They should have won the game. Anfield was incredible because it was just a mad win late on.

"And then there's a 4-3 against Bournemouth. But the facts are that if you've watched them for any considered period of time, since that Chelsea win it's two wins in 11 games. It's the worst in the division.

"There just hasn't been any consistency.

"This system has not settled into place at all over the nearly 40 games that Jesse Marsch has had. You want to call it a Red Bull system and it just hasn't produce consistent results nor attractive football. And it's just confused everybody I think."

Liverpool must start Nat Phillips
