Reports emerged on Sunday that Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a fee for Internazionale striker Lautaro Martinez, in a move that would beat Arsenal to his signature.
The Times reports Daniel Levy and Director of Football Fabio Paratici have agreed a deal worth £60m, rising to a mooted £76.8m, and the thought is that Martinez would play alongside Harry Kane, rather than in his place.
Martinez, 23, has scored 49 goals in 132 games for Inter since joining from Argentinian side Racing Club three years and helped them to win the Scudetto last season.
Martinez will team up at Tottenham with his compatrior Cristian Romero, who signed for the club last week.
The Argentine centre-back signed a five-year contract with the Premier League club after leaving Atalanta.
Romero is Spurs' second signing of the summer from the Bergamo club, following the loan arrival of goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini.
The 23-year old was part of the Argentina side that beat Brazil to win the Copa America last month.
Romero only joined Atalanta on a permanent €16million deal last summer, having spent the previous season on loan there from Juventus.
Meanwhile, Martinez's partner at Inter - Romelu Lukaku - is set to join London rivals Chelsea.
The European champions have agreed a fee worth around £95m and the Belgian is expected to sign a deal early next week for a reported £250,000 a week.
The deal would be just short of the £100m British record that Manchester City paid Aston Villa for midfielder Jack Grealish last week.
There are still details to be ironed out, but provided there are no unexpected problems, Lukaku will return to the club where he spent three seasons from 2011, although two of those seasons were spent on loan at West Bromwich Albion and Everton.
