LA Dodgers end 32-year wait for World Series win

The Los Angeles Dodgers have won the World Series for the first time since 1988 after beating the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 to secure a 4-2 win series win.

Corey Seager gave LA the lead and Mookie Betts hit a home run in the eighth inning to seal the win.

The Dodgers were playing in Major League Baseball’s championship main event for the third time in four years, having tasted defeat in 2017 against the Houston Astros and the Boston Red Sox in 2018.

All six games of the World Series were played at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas due to COVID-19.

11,000 fans were in attendance each night for the first World Series in baseball history to be played at a neutral ground.

Corey Seager was named the series' Most Valuable Player, while Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner was withdrawn midway through the game after it was confirmed he had tested positive for Covid-19.

It was the first positive test since baseball teams were put in quarantine bubbles for the League Championship Series in a shortened season because of the pandemic.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said the positive test meant it was a "bittersweet" end to the season.

"We're glad to be done, I do think it is a great accomplishment for our players to get this season completed but obviously we are concerned when any of our players tests positive," he said.

"We learned during the game that Justin tested positive, he was immediately isolated to prevent any spread."
